For this client, I designed and built four identical armoires to fit into alcoves. The frames of the doors are solid mahogany. Carlton McLendon's Exotic Hardwoods and Veneers supplied the crotch mahogany veneer. It was the remainder of a flitch, some of which had been used to build a desk for Ronald Reagan's California ranch.

A flitch is a log sliced and sequenced (like bacon) into boards of equal thickness. When you see several boards that exactly match, or that are mirror-images, they have come from the same flitch.
