APPALACHIAN MAPLE KITCHEN
These cabinet doors are hand-made of a clear, light-colored, soft Appalachian maple. As with many of the woods I use, this quality of Appalachian maple is becoming increasingly rare. I purchased it in the rough and had it specially milled for this project.

All of the counter tops are granite. Granite is the best material for counter tops because it's difficult to scratch, it won't stain, it won't carry bacteria, and you can't hurt it with a hot pan.

The middle shelf on the right of the island only LOOKS unsupported. It's strong enough to jump on, as I proved to my doubting client.
